WHAT ARE PORCELAIN INLAYS AND ONLAYS?

Most adults have had fillings for cavities or tooth damage, which cure filling materials like resin or amalgam inside the tooth. Inlays and onlays can also replace lost tooth material and strengthen the tooth, but these restorations are made in our on-site dental lab. They fit into the top or over side of the tooth, protecting it from damage and improving the overall appearance.

An inlay is performed when there is no damage to the cusps of the tooth. Additionally, a porcelain inlay can be placed right on the tooth. An inlay is used when the damage is a little less extensive. We can also replace your old metal fillings with small white, porcelain inlays to create a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

A porcelain onlay covers a larger area of the tooth and is better suited for more extensive areas of coverage. Onlays are used when there is more extensive damage to the tooth or to replace large or multiple metal fillings.
